Sports in Film

Rudy, The Waterboy, and Air Bud. All very well known sports movie. But there is more to the list than just those. Every year you can find a new sports movie hitting the theaters, but why? Sports movies are some of the best movies I have ever seen. You can never go wrong to put on a sports movie, and you always have a ton of options. Sports are a huge part of American culture, rather it be Football, Basketball, or Baseball  whatever you are feeling you can watch a movie involving any sport.
Not only do sports movies entertain they also Inspire. Many sports movie encourage young athletes to pursue their dream no matter what.

Rivalries

Duke vs. UNC, Auburn s. Bama, New York vs. Boston, Ohio State vs. Michigan, Celtics vs. Lakers http://msn.foxsports.com/collegebasketball/lists/Greatest-rivalries-in-sports#photo-title=Bring+it+on%2521&photo=29730307Rivalries are what make games huge! Almost every team has a rivalry that brings fans into the seats. Some are bigger than others. But there will always be a fight about who has the biggest rivalry of all time. Honestly its hard to say who the biggest rivalry is. I guess it all depends on who you like. Personally I consider New York and Boston to be one of the biggest rivalries. But in ESPN's list of biggest rivalries they are ranked number 7 while Ohio State and Michigan are number one. I agree with this but I defiantly think New York and Boston are bigger. But this is all personal opinion I guess. But my question for you is who do you think the biggest Rivalry of all time is?

My kind of money

Recently Robinson Cano has asked the New York Yankees for a nine year $260 million dollar contract. I don't know about everyone else but that's a ton of money. On average that's about 28.9 million per year! What can you do with all that money? But that brings me to my point what do athletes do with all that money? Some may donate it to various charities but they don't donate a million dollars so what do they do?Why does anyone in general need that much money? I realize i keep asking a lot of questions but these are all concerns I have with how much athletes are paid.

Space Jam 2?

While surfing the web recently I came across a great discovery! Now you may ask what I found. Well the best thing since sliced bread. Space Jam 2. In this new addition Lebron James would be the one saving the world with his buddies Bugs and Daffy. Well what makes this movie so great? Everything! The original Space Jam is a classic so why wouldn't the second one be just as great. Lebron James is a great athlete and I'm sure he would undoubtedly  help the Toonsquad defeat the aliens. If this movie is actually released I will be the first to buy it!

Duck Dynasty

As I sit here and watch Duck Dynasty with my roommate Emily I think to myself is hunting a sport? Yes? No? Well to be honest i don't think so. What really goes into hunting? Sitting in a tree stand waiting on a deer doesn't seem too difficult to me. But yet people still think that it is major challenge. All you need is patience something we learned in Kindergarten.  Don't get me wrong deer meat is delicious but its not a sport at all, the only difficult part would be climbing into the tree stand. But those are just my thoughts.

Duke Football??

When I mention Duke University what do you think of? I'm sure you probably think of Basketball and how great they are. Well I'm sure you all didn't know how well their football team is doing this year. This year they are currently 8-2, something I learned when my cousins from North Carolina came and visited. But is there a concern here? Yes. When a University has one great sport team often times their other sports go unnoticed. Sadly this can hurt these athletes feelings, if you went to an athletic school and you went unnoticed how would you feel? Hurt? Heart broken? Angry? So many feelings come to mind. So I'm telling you don't concentrate on one sport remember them all!

Wheels can't stop them

This past weekend Slippery Rock University hosted a wheel chair rugby tournament. It was a great event that was really uplifting. Thanks to many technology upgrades its possible  for people with disabilities to play sports that they never thought they could, such as Rugby. Now with many other new technology upgrades they can even compete in extreme sports such as mountain biking and skiing. Thanks to upgrades in types of wheels and designs for these wheelchairs it is possible for people to compete with others with out disabilities.  Thanks to the engineering of many people, every one has a chance  to compete in a sport which is a great opportunity   because of how sports help to better people.

Big Name Sponsors

Sponsors are important part of sports today not only to the athletes but to the brands too. Take for example Nike, Nike sponsors major athletes such as Kobe Bryant and Lebron James. If companies sponsor some of the most well know athletes consumers may often think "Well if this athlete wears it than I should too". Although this may not be good for the consumer this is good for the company. Just because an athletes wear a certain brand doesn't mean that it is right for everyone. Often times it isn't the case. Many times these products are not right for everyone, especially because everyone is not a professional athlete. But is that really issue though? No, because companies will try to sell you their brand in any way and that's what they are meant to do. So if using an athlete works than that is what they will do.

Changing Seasons

As Baseball season comes to an end it means the weather is slowly changing and plenty more sports are beginning.  A favorite in western PA is Hockey. Hockey is a sport I don't really know about, even though I grew up right across the border. Hockey was just never a really big sport in my area. Now that I go to school at Slippery Rock University, hockey is a sport I hear about quite often. The Penguins are a favorite team here and I understand why. Western Pennsylvanians love their Pittsburgh sports teams. Which leads me into another sport that is popular here, Football. The Steelers are a team that everyone knows, and if you're not a fan well too bad you should be (at least that's what they think). This season though the Steeler are off to a rough start, which is good for everyone else in the league but not the Steeler fans.Even though Western Pennsylvanias are such big sport fanatics there is one winter sport they do not have, basketball. Basketball is one of my favorite sports and I'm glad i grew up in Ohio where we have the Cavaliers. Even though they're not the best team they still have potential. Kyrie Irving, will be a huge part of the team in years to come, and rumors have been flying about Lebron returning. Although you never know how a team will do in any given season, all fans still have hope that their team will be the very best.

Social Networking

I am going to discuss something I'm quite familiar with, social networking. With the changing pace of the world  a new thing used in sports is technology. One of the biggest changes is the use of social networks. Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook are all some of the biggest social networks used by sports teams, athletes, and even ESPN. Teams often inform followers about major changes through tweets and statuses. Teams may tweet about trades, scores of games, and even player's injuries. Athletes are some of the biggest social network users. From tweeting about their private lives to posting pictures of their families many athletes let their fans learn more about themselves through their social networks. Although athletes often tweet about good things sometimes they say thing that are inappropriate. Many athletes often get themselves in trouble with the thing they say, or post. So my question for you is what are your thoughts on athletes and social networking, is it a good thing or a bad thing?
